The Parish Finance Council is required in every parish pursuant to canon 1281 of the Code of Canon Law. The Parish Finance Council is an essential consultative body of the parish that “assists the pastor in the administration of the goods” of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish. The work of the Parish Finance Council is to be seen as a necessary element of the pastor’s responsibility to administer the material resources of the parish efficiently, transparently and productively. Such items that the pastor consult with the Parish Finance Council include:
• Review of the annual parish budget according to Archdiocesan requirements and format.
• Annual inventory review of parish property.
• Review of the monthly financial report, according to Archdiocesan requirements and format.
• Review of the annual financial report according to Archdiocesan requirements and format, to be submitted to the Archdiocesan Dept. of Finance and Administration.
• Review of any/all financial audits.
• Consultation and/or approval of spending of over $10,001.00
• Collaboration with Parish Pastoral Council in the accomplishment of the pastoral priorities.
• The Finance Council does not oversee the daily administration of the parish goods, but assists the pastor in his responsibilities.
Finance Council members are appointed by the pastor for specific terms. Qualifications of members included being fully initiated and active Catholics with knowledge of the parish, equipped with the expertise or experience in the areas of finance, administration, law, accounting, property management, budgeting and personnel management.
